Xanga Fears
Elevated to RED- Defcon 1: Xanga Fear(s)
(Defcon Site)
I browsed those websites by the Xanga people and was initially amused with the ugly background, templates and noisy designs. But then, as I kept exploring, I found myself having strange reactions:
1) clammy palms
2) quickening heartbeats pace
3) eyes darting across the screen in fear of something will come out
4) biting my nails then whatever was after the nails
5) sweating
I stopped by slamming my iBook shut and took a deep breath... what had trigger such nervousness into me?! Well, after serious analysis on my reactions, I came to realize that those Xanga sites instilled fear into me. The major and only reason was: the constant "due to my privacy" or "for my protection"... most of them somehow block free-roaming americans (like me) from exploring on their freedom of speech posts-- and the only way I could read their "valulable" empty intelligence spouts was to ask them for permission to "subscribe."
I browsed 36 different sites and was only able to read 5. So, for those who appreciate stats, approximately 86% of the Xanga sites were blocked.
Why? Different reasons and the most common reason I came upon was, "I work at school" and/or "I am a teacher and I need to be careful with what I say."
I'm going to teach HS English this coming fall. Do I now have a dilemma in my hands? Off the point, I slowly came to this comparison... Xanga is no better than Bush and his exploits on the Media. Instilling fear into us, making us believe that the terrorists are a threat (yeah right, we're more of a threat to other countries). Now they go off saying there would be a 70% chance of a WMD attack in a decade... nice of them to include the stats (where did they get that stats in the first place anyway?). It's so friggin' ridiculous to have stats on something that did not historically or measurably happen and it's so Bushism to measure something that's nonexistent in order to control gullible (seemingly in high numbers) US idiots.
Good thing for my "questioning the authority" at every chance possible, I was able to calm down and think to myself,
"Honey, the Xangas are like the Republics using loud and noisy (eye sore as well) Humvees when desgining across the tarmac."
Despite my brillance in questioning the authority and seeing through the ridiculous Xanga fears, I still have this nagging question in my mind, should I be careful with what I blog? I am sure my students will be avid website explorers.
Tonight I know I will be dreaming about Xanga, Bush, the Media, Color coded bars and then Michael Moore will come and rescue me.
Oh yes, speaking of Moore, I want a T-shirt of his face on the front, like you would see of Che, and on the back would say, "Moore please!"

Not to disrespect those who died under Che's brutual rampage but I simply like the design.
Anyway, I've taken enough of your time, now go and browse the Xanga sites! Beware! Guard your intelligences well!
